A look inside Each Person with CEO Matt Norbury on culture, growth, and wellbeing.

How Matt Norbury Built Each Person: A People-First Approach to HR Tech

At Each Person, we believe people are at the heart of every great company - including ours. Since launching in 2017, we’ve been focused on helping businesses put their people first through recognition, wellbeing, and meaningful benefits.

But our mission isn’t just something we deliver to others. It’s how we function, too. From the way we build our culture to how we shape our platform, we’re always asking: Are we practicing what we preach?

At the heart of that journey is Matt Norbury, our founder, CEO, and someone who still believes that valuing people is the smartest (and kindest) way to grow a business. In this Q&A, we sit down with Matt to chat about where Each Person all started, what keeps him motivated, and why the future of work is more human than ever.

Whether you’re new here or already familiar with Each Person, consider this your behind-the-scenes pass.

- Q&A Starts –

1. Let’s start from the beginning. What sparked the idea for Each Person, and how did it all begin?

Matt Norbury: “The cliché or perfect answer would be that I had a terrible experience at work and set out to fix it. However, the truth is that I’m an entrepreneur. I originally set out to revolutionise loyalty point schemes, which I felt were built more around the needs of the businesses issuing them rather than the people using them.

Along the way, a large employer asked if we could adapt our reward currency to power their recognition strategy. That request sparked a pivot, and after several evolutions, Each Person was born (7years ago).

Today, we’ve built a platform that helps companies genuinely recognise their people while delivering everyday value to employees, and we’re now bringing all their benefits together under one roof. It’s still early in the journey, but one we’re excited to keep building”.

2.  Do you remember your very first job and did it teach you anything that still sticks with you today?

Matt Norbury: “My first ever job was a paper round, followed by working at the local newsagent as a young teen. After that, I did a bit of everything: part-time baker at Tesco, bingo caller at Gala, and a string of other roles between the ages of 14 and 17. I was always working, always learning. Then, at 18, I set up my first tech startup, and I’ve been building businesses ever since”.

3. What does downtime look like when you step away from Each Person?

Matt Norbury: “When I’m not in the office, life splits in two. When my kids are with me, which is half the time, it’s all about them: time together, the school run, just enjoying being a dad. The other half looks a bit different: gym sessions, films, experimenting with AI tools, the occasional pub trip, and, for my sins, watching Man United (as painful as that is these days). I’ve also recently discovered an appetite, rather than an aptitude, for DIY. I try to have fun both at work and outside of it; life’s too short not to”.

4. Looking back, what achievement means the most to you, personally and professionally?

Matt Norbury: “Personally, I’m most proud of raising two brilliant boys and the relationship I have with them. It’s strong, grounded, and something I’ll always value above everything else.

Career-wise, there are two stand out achievements. The first is the team I’ve built at Each Person, some of the smartest, most fun and committed people I’ve ever worked with. They’ve shaped a culture that’s second to none and made it a place people genuinely enjoy being part of. The second is the trust we’ve earned from our clients. Supporting some of the UK’s most recognisable organisations, including parts of the NHS and employers with workforces of over 20,000, to look better after their people is something I’m incredibly proud of”.

5. What excites you most about where Each Person is headed next?

Matt Norbury: “What excites me most about the future of Each Person is growing and learning alongside our clients and employee base. As we scale, we’ve had huge opportunities to do things quicker and smarter, especially by embracing AI. However, what matters just as much is holding onto the closeness, energy, and fun that define our team today. If we can keep that spirit while growing our impact, we’ll build something really special.”

6. As a leader, what values guide how you build teams and make decisions?

Matt Norbury: “I try to lead with respect and humility, treating everyone fairly and never assuming I know best or that seniority always equals the right answer. I believe in making decisions quickly and delivering on what we say we’ll do. Pragmatism is key, and I’m always looking for ways we can improve what we do and how we do it. But above all, it has to be enjoyable. If we’re not having fun along the way, we’re doing something wrong”.

 7. In your view, what truly sets Each Person apart from other platforms out there?

Matt Norbury: “Each Person stands apart through its unique blend of flexibility, simplicity, and personal support. Our platform continually evolves to meet the changing needs of today’s workforce, featuring a mobile-first, globally accessible design that keeps teams connected wherever they are. With transparent, fixed, per-employee pricing and no hidden fees, we make powerful benefits accessible to businesses of all sizes. What truly sets us apart is our hands-on, proactive account management, ensuring every client gets a tailored experience and our ability to deliver reward, recognition, and exclusive discounts in local languages across 45+ countries”.

8. If you could give just one piece of advice to HR leaders looking to improve employee wellbeing, what would it be?

Matt Norbury: “Start by listening. Too many wellbeing strategies are developed top-down without a thorough understanding of what employees actually value or need. The best strategies are co-created, rooted in real feedback, flexible enough to evolve, and supported by consistent recognition. Wellbeing isn’t a one-time initiative; it’s embedded in everyday life. And most importantly, don’t overcomplicate it. Small, genuine actions often have the biggest impact”.

- Q&A Ends –
By now, you can probably can tell that Each Person is more than just an employee benefits platform, it’s a reflection of the people behind it. Matt’s journey from teenage entrepreneur to CEO of a company rooted in recognition and wellbeing says a lot about who we are and what we stand for.

We’re proud to be shaping a future where people feel genuinely seen, supported, and celebrated in the workplace. As the employee benefits space continues to evolve, so do we. Always listening, learning, and looking for better ways to support our community.

And the best part? We’re just getting started.
